  Dr Mohammed Shihab Mahmood joined the University of Diyala as an assistance lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering in 2007, having completed his Civil Engineering BSc (first class degree) at the Military Engineering College (Baghdad) and Structural Engineering MSc at the University of Technology (Baghdad).  He was subsequently promoted to a Lecturer in 2010. In 2015 he got a PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Nottingham (UK). Now, Dr Mahmood is the director of postgraduate studies at the Department of Civil Engineering.Mahmood main research areas are the performance of steel connections and the strengthening and rehabilitations of reinforced concrete structures. His work includes the investigation of the performance of blind bolted connections to tubular hollow sections. In the strengthening and rehabilitation area, his work includes the use of fibre reinforced polymers and the development of sustainable binding materials
